When Dance Meets Design: Lumosco Photo x Cloudbody

St. Louis professional dancers. San Francisco-made dance pants. One photoshoot that brought them together.

Some collaborations just make sense. When Cloudbody, a small, dancer-owned dancewear brand out of San Francisco, reached out about a photoshoot featuring their pants on real movers, it felt like an easy yes. Their whole ethos is built around creating garments specifically for dancers and athletes, not just activewear that happens to end up in a studio. That kind of intentionality deserves to be shown on people who actually live and breathe movement, and there's no shortage of those here in St. Louis.

About the Collaboration

This shoot was built around a simple idea: let the clothes speak through the bodies that wear them best. Cloudbody's signature dance pants: their "Cloudbody Classics" line, are made with athlete-approved performance fabric and designed with movers in mind from the ground up. They're the kind of pants dancers actually reach for, the ones that move with you rather than against you.

We brought together a group of local St. Louis professional dancers across different disciplines and let them do what they do. My job as photographer was to get out of the way and capture what was already there — the lines, the power, the ease that only comes from a dancer who's completely comfortable in their body and their gear.

Why Cloudbody

If you haven't heard of Cloudbody yet, that's about to change. This San Francisco-based small business has built a loyal following, over thousands of happy movers and counting, by doing something the big brands rarely do: making dancewear that's actually made for dancers.

Their Cloudbody Classics line ships nationwide and internationally, so no matter where you're dancing, you can get your hands on a pair. Each style is crafted from performance fabric that's been tested and approved by athletes, and their sizing and silhouettes are designed with the specific demands of movement in mind.

A few things that set them apart:

  • Made in San Francisco — proudly small-batch and stateside

  • Dancer-focused design — not just "athleisure," these are built for the studio and the stage

  • Ships worldwide — accessible to the global dance community

  • 1,000+ five-star movers — a community that keeps coming back

You can shop their full collection at cloudbody.shop — and if you're a dancer or mover who takes their craft seriously, it's worth a look.

The St. Louis Dance Scene Deserves a Spotlight

One of the things I love most about working in St. Louis is that this city has a thriving, deeply rooted dance community that doesn't always get the national recognition it deserves. The professional dancers we worked with on this shoot are the real deal, trained artists who perform, teach, and create at a high level every single day.

Collaborations like this one matter because they create visibility. They say: the dancers here are worth photographing. The work happening here is worth documenting. When a brand like Cloudbody chooses to partner with a St. Louis photographer and feature St. Louis dancers, it's an acknowledgment that great movement is happening everywhere, not strictly in the coastal dance hubs.

That's something I've built Lumosco Photo around. My work as a dance photographer is rooted in the belief that every dancer, whether they're on a Broadway stage or a small but mighty dance company in the Midwest, deserves images that honor what they do. I bring professional lighting, thoughtful direction, and a deep respect for the art form to every session I take on.

A Note on Small Business Collaboration

There's something genuinely special about two small businesses finding each other. Cloudbody is independently run and making their pants by hand in San Francisco. Lumosco Photo is independently run and photographing dancers right here in St. Louis and beyond. Neither of us has a massive marketing budget or a corporate team behind us, what we have is craft, intention, and a real love for what we do.

That common ground makes for better work. When the people behind the lens and behind the product both care deeply about the community they serve, it shows.

If you're a dancer, dance company, or dance brand looking to collaborate on photography, whether that's editorial work like this, headshots, audition photos, company portraits, or performance documentation, I'd love to connect. You can learn more about what I offer and reach out at lumoscophoto.com.
