Edgy Dance Photography Session in Downtown St. Louis | Izzy Tognarelli

I am beyond excited to share this session! I realize I say that about all of my sessions (I just love my clients so much) but this shoot with Izzy, whew, I am just obsessed. Izzy came to me wanting senior portraits, but expressed to me that they wanted more dance and movement focused shots. After chatting back and forth, I got a better feel for Izzy’s personality, impeccable sense of style, and overall genre of movement.

The day of the session was gloomy and beyond chilly but Izzy was a true champ. We made sure to stay warm by jumping around, bundling up when not shooting, and taking a few moments to blast the heat in the car. Truly, Izzy not only powered through the session, but absolutely killed it, not showing at all how cold it was outside.

We started our session in Kiener Plaza right in the heart of downtown St. Louis. We were able to sneak in some shots with her pup Bubba, such a sweet little nugget! Kiener plaza is a great location for photos as there is plenty of room to spread out, great city views, and very conveniently located to other places downtown. The plaza was recently renovated, updates starting in 2013 and opening the plaza back up in 2017. The newer updates allow for awesome events and community gatherings (when there isn’t a pandemic happening…) such as Yoga Buzz sunrise community yoga and more.

Location number two was on a nearby rooftop parking garage. The parking garages in downtown St. Louis are so versatile and provide beautiful city views, an added perk being that parking is quite inexpensive in St. Louis! For clients wanting to book a session with two locations, the pairing of Kiener Plaza and a rooftop garage is by far one of my favorite pairings for a more urban style of session.

Izzy’s outfit choices were top notch too. In fact, I cannot stop talking about it. Izzy went with the two outfit, two location package for her session, which provides a more versatile experience with a variety of images. We discussed Izzy’s outfit ideas and they sent me options that they were considering. The two outfits that they ended up wearing were so flattering, easy to move and dance in, and were spot on with expressing Izzy’s personality.

A few things to consider when choosing outfits for your photo session.

What does your go-to outfit look like? What is it that you wear when you want to look good and feel confident? Think about various scenarios. What would you wear to a coffee shop? Going out on the town? On a date? Out dancing?

For dance and movement you also want to consider how movable your outfit choices are. Some of my go-to recommendations are jumpsuits, stretchy pants, flowy pants, and long flowy or stretchy dress or skirt for a more pedestrian look.

Check out the gallery of images from my dance session with Izzy below and be sure to use Izzy’s outfits as inspiration for your next photo shoot!
