Dance Photography Poses | Ideas and Inspiration for Dancers

This is a dance photography posing guide

Use this guide as a jumping off point to create your own poses and use as inspiration for when you get in front of the camera. Each are categorized into different types of poses so you can choose based on your skillset, technique, and what you’d like to showcase in your photos.

The flow of my dance photoshoots are similar to a dance class: warmup and foundational basics, building into balance and more complex movements, stretching, finishing out with big jumps and leaps, battements, and creative movements.

This guide is structured in a similar flow. If you choose any poses or variations from this guide, we will likely move in this general order during the photoshoot.

By no means are these the end all, be all of dance photography poses.

I created this dance posing guide to use as a tool to craft poses that work the best for your technique and your body. Take an idea for a pose and explore it, how it feels, what things about it you may change to fit better with your style, clothing choices, personality, and skills. The options are endless! Let this be a starting point and have fun exploring dance poses!
